My name is Orville V. Murray Jr., and I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). I believe mutual respect is significant in developing a positive connection with each client/patient and the core value of our firm. Life can become difficult; therefore, my objective is to develop a tailored strategy to help each patient ideally return to their previous level of functioning.
Now you might be wondering what a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is. A PMHNP performs tasks similar to a psychiatrist with a few exceptions. In the state of Florida, a PMHNP can prescribe the same psychotropic (psychiatric medications) prescriptions as a psychiatrist. Some of these psychiatric medications include Psychostimulants (i.e. Adderall, Ritalin), Benzodiazepines (i.e. Xanax and Valium), and sleep aids (i.e. Ambien and Lunesta). Visiting a PMHNP can therefore be just as effective as seeing a psychiatrist. “Research has found that patients under the care of Nurse Practitioners have fewer unnecessary hospital readmissions, fewer potentially preventable hospitalizations, higher patient satisfaction, and fewer unnecessary emergency room visits than patients under the care of physicians.” (American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2021)
